I’m anticipating this record like nothing else this year. This is by a mile the best track that’s leaked since his release. Internet rap blog game is crazy to treat what dudes like Hus & Jacka have done & are doing as anything less than leagues beyond much of the rest of rap. Keep talkin about “Exhibit C” with good reason, but Hus’ “Frozen Heart” was “Exhibit C” in 2006.
More on Husalah soon ….
Also, I reviewed DaVinci for Pitchfork.
Speaking of Frozen Heart, Talk It Out is another great self-mythologizing Hus’ track.
this is my shit right here
damn. i had choppas out on repeat this morning, and this is the perfect compliment. album should be crazy.
Oh, wow.
In my top 5 MCs period right now. I always thought it was so awesome how he’s mostly influenced by NY rappers but he still kept a lot of the Cali/mobb slang. Makes him sound totally unique.
Huslin’ Since Da ’80s is a serious contender for best rap album of 2007. That’s the same year that Underground Kingz and Waitin’ To Inhale came out. Think about that. Just about every damn song on that thing was a highlight.
“I always thought it was so awesome how he’s mostly influenced by NY rappers but he still kept a lot of the Cali/mobb slang.”
I think the best Mob Figaz releases are the ones that are just this perfect mixture of Bay Area gangsta shit and east coast thug rap. Production wise too, with the soul samples being backed by mobb bass. It’s just a really interesting combination.
West Coast Vaccine by Turf Talk ftw as best album of ’07, though.
West Coast Vaccine has some nice bangers, but it doesn’t even come close to Hustlin Since Da 80s. I always thought it weird how the internet never gave Hus his due, then again knowing just how slept on dude is it’s like being in a really weird little club.
listening to this over and over again…
This is hot!
Dayum, that track goes. I need a late pass but I’m on board.
I will check for this cat from now on.
