He liked life raw.

I miss ODB. This has been a really shitty month.
I love the skit on his first album where he says something about how he used to make this noise back when he was a kid and then he goes into that really slow vocal chord vibration that sort of sounds like a motorcycle revving and accellerating, and he does it for like 5 minutes and then finished, having sped up the noise into a operatic “AHHHHHH!!!”
Those opening piano notes for “Shimmy Shimmy Ya” are probably the most thrillingly dirty piano plunks I’ve ever heard. When I hear it I get this deranged look in my eyes and this sounds corny but there is no question I am inhabited by Ol’ Dirty’s spirit; motherfucker knew how to bring out the most unhinged reactions from listeners.
He brought up race a lot. I always thought that was interesting, and important; he was certainly more aware of what was going on than a lot of people gave him credit for. Sometimes he would talk about “blue people” and “aliens” to show that his utopian clubbing experience – and he was always talking about the clubs, cuz that’s where the pussy was – was inclusive, everyone was allowed, but he was not compromising when it came to race and wasn’t afraid to challenge his listeners, warn them from “white devils.” There’s a lot of hyperbole going around the blogs about Dirty and his music but it is almost entirely deserved.
He’s a folk hero but most of all I’ll miss his music. He was the soul of Wu-Tang, and they’ll never be the same. God made dirt and dirt BUST YO ASS. RIP dirt dog.
