If you fucks haven’t been paying attention to CrossfadedBacon.com you need to get that shit corrected. It’s Emynd and Bo Bliz’s site, good dudes and totally worth checking (unless it’s emil’s rave shit). They do a 1st and 15th mix that gets dropped around those days. The last one was this Best of Gucci Mix that Pete Butta did for them. I’ve been listening to it none stop for the last few days, I was late on downloading it. Go get that shit, it’s worth your internet experience.

Heart & Soul of NYC
Gotta just give Pete Rock credit for how perfect this is, smoky twilight NYC history vibrating in the acrid air. Has that same wistfulness as the “Out for the Cash” single version as heard here, such a great example of rappers remaining in character w/ detached cool, but the song retains nuanced, soft-focus melancholy by balancing that reserve with a strong musical emotional pull.

Lyrics: Gucci Mane – “Weird”

Well “Weird” certainly lives up to its name. The beat sounds like someone (I’m assuming Zaytoven) took a sledgehammer to an existing Zaytoven beat and then tried to piece it back together. It’s a really odd and interesting production, but if it is Zay it’s not thaaaat far off from, say, “First Day Out” or any one of his other beats that are really layered and have all these counterpointing keyboard riffs bouncing off each other.
Gucci’s verses are structured pretty appropriately to this beat, which is to say not at all. That said, the track doesn’t really feel stilted which is pretty amazing if you just try and read the lyrics back to yourself. He strings everything together though, totally in control. “Weird” really reminds me of a slightly less frantic version of the insane free association raps that Wayne was doing on that old Lil Weezyana tape. In terms of Gucci though, the verses are pretty reminiscent of the way he cannibalized his lines on “Wonderful.” Also his ad-libs on this are insane, like if a Komodo dragon was a rapper.
Anyway there’s a few things I know I got wrong here, so if you’ve got any corrections leave them in the comments.

More goofball black boy white boy raps
been listening to this FLY album today, goofy beats and party raps. Kind of wishing fools would play this kind of shit in the club in the bay. This Party Time shit barely makes sense, just a bunch of white boy words getting thrown around being held together by an freaking gnarly 8 bit melody.
Straight Gangsterism
My friend sent me this link this morning, I haven’t seen this video since 93. Only time I’d ever seen it was in black & white too because my reception for the BOX in Phoenix was so shitty I never got it in color and could only get it after ten pm and the fucking rabbit ears had to be pointed to the westside at just the right angle. Somedays shit came in like scrambled porn but other days I’d get almost clear videos coming through. I was amazed to see that kind of shit, in Bryan, Texas we didn’t have nothing like the BOX, my 13 year old mind was blown. The closest I had was dubbing pirate stations out of Hearn, Tx late at night. To see a fucking video was amazing to me.
I Got White Friends
This chorus is amazing, I’m laughing my ass off, good shit
peep the mad decent radio joint that Rico Uno and Erik Devereux did for their party ReUp. It’s a gang of these goofy powerglove beats and white boy black boy melody rap shit, it’s a fun mix and the place I heard this White Friends track for the first time.
